So, what exactly is drunk Jenga? It’s a twist on the original Jenga game where you write rules, challenges, or drinking prompts on each of the Jenga blocks. When someone pulls a block, they have to do whatever it says. It adds a whole new layer of pressure and laughs to the already nerve-wracking game. You can buy pre-made sets, but it's way more fun to DIY your own!

DIY Drunk Jenga: What You'll Need

Getting your drunk Jenga set ready is super easy. Here’s what you’ll need:

• A Jenga set (or any similar wooden stacking blocks)
• Felt-tip pens or permanent markers in various colours
• Paper and a pen (for brainstorming rules)

You’ll be writing on 54 Jenga blocks, so grab a friend to help out if you want to speed things up!

How to Play Drunk Jenga

Playing drunk Jenga is pretty straightforward, but the rules on the blocks keep things interesting.

Setup: Building the Tower

First things first, you need to build the tower. Arrange three Jenga blocks side-by-side, then place three more on top, rotated 90 degrees. Keep going until all the blocks are stacked. For an extra surprise, make sure the rules you wrote on the blocks are hidden from players.

Gameplay: Pull, Read, Do

1. Who starts? You can pick the oldest, youngest, or just random.
2. Pull a block: Just like regular Jenga, players take turns using one hand to carefully pull a Jenga block from any level below the top three rows. Take it slow – no one wants to be the person who makes it all crash down!
3. Read and perform: Once you successfully pull a block, read the rule or dare aloud and do what it says.
4. Re-stack: After completing the rule, place the block on top of the tower, perpendicular to the row below it.
5. Next player: Play continues clockwise (or counter-clockwise, whatever you decide).

Endgame: The Collapse

The game ends when the tower tumbles down. The person who pulled the unlucky block that caused the collapse has to finish their drink as a penalty! Then, it's their job to set up the tower for the next round.

Drunk Jenga Rule Ideas for Your Blocks

Here are some rule ideas for your Jenga blocks. Mix and match, or get creative and make up your own!

Drinking Prompts (These get the sips flowing!)

• Take 5 sips: You guessed it, take 5 sips of your drink.
• Give 5 sips: Pick someone to take 5 sips.
• Waterfall: Everyone starts drinking at the same time. You stop first, then the person to your left, and so on.
• Bottoms Up!: Finish your drink.
• Election Day: Everyone votes for one player, and that person finishes their drink.
• Cup of Sugar: Your neighbours (the players to your left and right) both drink.
• Single Ladies/Coupled Up: All single players drink, or all coupled players drink.
• Witch's Brew: Everyone else creates a mystery shot for you to drink.

Dare Prompts (Time to get silly!)

• Google It: Share your most recent Google search with the group.
• Hi Mom!: Call your mom on speakerphone.
• Influencer: The group decides what you have to post to your Snapchat or Instagram story.
• Paparazzi: Show everyone the last photo on your camera roll.
• Wiretap: Read aloud the last text you sent.
• Spin the Bottle: Spin an empty bottle and kiss the person it points to.
• TSA: Let the table rummage through your bag for 30 seconds.
• Fresh Ink: Let the person next to you give you a Sharpie tattoo.

Truth Prompts (Spill the tea!)

• Hot Seat: Everyone at the table asks you one question. Take a sip if you don't want to answer.
• Never Have I Ever: Start a 3-finger game of Never Have I Ever.
• Love-Me-Not: Who's your secret crush?
• Old Flames: Do you still have feelings for any exes?
• Come Clean: Fess up to a lie. Any lie.
• Hall Pass: Which celebrity would you "put out" for?
• XOXO: Who was your last kiss?
• Show Us the Receipts: What was your last embarrassing purchase?

Game-Changing Rules (These shake things up!)

• Reverse: The direction of play reverses.
• Single-Handed: You can only use one hand for the rest of the game.
• Mute Button: You can't speak for the rest of the game. If you do, you drink.
• Who Turned Out the Lights?: The next player takes their turn blindfolded.
• Do-Over: The next player has to put a block from the top back into the tower.
• Take My Hand: Hold hands with the player to your left for the rest of the game.
• Merry-Go-Round: Every time a block is successfully pulled and placed, every player must spin 3 times.
• Play a round of Boomit: If you pull this block, everyone stops the Jenga game and plays one round of Boomit. The loser of that round takes an extra drink in Jenga.
